Notice: The product development lifecycle of edit-on Pro has ended, but it is still commercially available through a variety of sources. RealObjects also continues support for edit-on Pro and the VersioTrack Add-on, including the supply of bugfixes. Existing customers of course can further use edit-on Pro.

However, we recommend to upgrade to our next generation HTML online editor.

Special dialog for copy & paste

Special dialog for copy & pasteThe new "Paste Special" dialog provides the user a clear interface to insert contents using the editor's four copy & paste options.

  • Plain text: Inserts the contents of the clipboard without any formatting or styles.
  • Pure HTML: Inserts the contents of the clipboard in HTML format without style information. Structural information is preserved.
  • Styled HTML: Inserts the contents of the clipboard in HTML format including style information contained inline.
  • Styled HTML with style sheets: Inserts the contents of the clipboard in HTML format with styles contained in an embedded style sheet. Imported styles will be merged with existing style sheets.

For more information about the copy & paste behaviour see the Integration Manual. Besides that, the editor's drag & drop behaviour can be mapped to one of these options, which are also described within the Integration Manual.

Page properties dialog

Page properties dialogRealObjects edit-on Pro provides a page properties dialog which enables the user to adjust the background, the colors as well as general information like title, base and target. This information will then be automatically inserted into the source code of the current document.

Insert comments

Using the new insert comment dialog users now can add comments within the editor's WYSIWYG view. Those are visible through a small image (can also be changed), which is displayed in the P-mode only.

Insert date and time

The dialog enables the author to easily insert the date and/or time in different formats.

Keyboard shortcuts for all editor functions

The editor comes with default keyboard shortcuts (e.g. Ctrl+B, Ctrl+U, Ctrl+I), which can easily be replaced by custom keyboard shortcuts (e.g. Ctrl+L, Ctrl+H) through a corresponding "action id" entry in the configuration file uiconfig.xml further enhancing productivity of your authors/users.

Insert hyperlinks, bookmarks and images

RealObjects edit-on Pro makes it easy for non-technical users with no knowledge of HTML to create and update rich web content. Quickly and straightforward links from text or images to web pages (hyperlinks) or another place in the same document (bookmarks) can be made.

The author just selects text or an image and completes a simple dialog to insert a hyperlink or bookmark. The text?s color changes immediately to indicate a hyperlink (underlined) or bookmark (underlined ? dotted). To edit the link afterwards the author selects the text or image and opens a dialog through a toolbar button, context-sensitive menu or pull down menu entry.

Images can be inserted from the local file system, dragged-and-dropped or selected from a server-side repository. For more information see also Automatic image upload.

Automatic hyperlink conversion as you type

When typing for example "www.yourcompany.com" edit-on Pro will recognize this as a valid URL and will insert a hyperlink automatically.

Insert Symbol Dialog has an "Additional Symbols" tab for custom symbols

Besides the default symbols in the "Insert Symbol" dialog, the integrator/developer can also define additional symbols through the editor's configuration file. Those will then be available to the users through the "Additional Symbols" tab within the dialog.

Change Case dialog

The change case feature allows the user to convert text to UPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case or tOGGLE cASE. It is also possible to provide this functionality through style classes only.

Text highlighting (background-color)

Users can easily highlight text through background colors. If you do not want to let users apply colors, remove the button and train them to apply style classes instead.

The users can choose from a palette of "Standard Colors" or define "Custom Colors". When "Standard Colors" are enabled, an enhanced color dialog will be shown when clicking on "More Colors", allowing users to specify colors by moving the cursor around on a spectrum or by entering red, green and blue values.

The integrator/developer can even overwrite the entire color dialog.

Strikethrough text

This optional functionality can be used to show text of a document that has been abandoned, but still making it possible to see what it originally was. Using CSS and a custom button enables  tags to be wrapped around the selected tags. Via the style sheet the integrator can define the strikethrough style.

Enhanced image support

Using the alignment option text can be wrapped around images. The standard options allow the user to resize images while the aspect ratio can be maintained. Advanced options enable the modification of the image's attributes. This can also be done using the tree view dialog. In addition, images can be visually resized using the mouse. The visual resizing can be enabled/disabled by the integrator/developer.

Enhanced image support

  • Interactive resizing of table, cell and row widths using the mouse

Search and replace in WYSIWYG and Source View

In order to provide a productive working environment, edit-on Pro supports flexible search and replace functionality that operates in both WYSIWYG and Source View. So, users will be able to locate and optionally replace text quickly and efficiently.

Search and replace in WYSIWYG and Source View

Syntax highlighting in the Source View

Syntax highlighting significantly eases source code editing when the "Source View" tab is enabled by the integrator/developer. In combination with the search and replace function users will be able to quickly do source code modifications without loosing track. While the source view is available to the users, syntax highlighting can also be disabled through the editor's configuration file.

Autosave function

The Autosave function will automatically save a backup file of the content you are working on. If your computer crashes or in case the HTTP connection to your server is interrupted while working on the content, you will lose all the work completed since the last time you saved your work. edit-on Pro will create a back up file of any content on the client machine at a scheduled time. The timing of these scheduled backups in the Autosave function can be set by the integrator.

For more information please review also our Support FAQ "Does edit-on Pro have an Autosave function?"

Enhanced color dialog
