4.1 How does the edit-on Pro Seat License activation work?

The edit-on Pro Seat License requires the activation of each Named User (= Non-Concurrent User = User Seat). Activating means that a one way hash (= encryption technology) of each user name (which is read from the "user.name" system property of the JRE, that includes the name the user enters when he logs on to his system) is automatically sent to our web service to uniquely identify the activated seat. The user will be asked only once to do so when the editor is started the first time.

A one-way hash is a number of fixed length with the following characteristics. The value of the hash is unique for the hashed data while the content of the hashed data cannot, for all practical purposes, be deduced from the hash. The hash is stored in our database to count the number of activated seats. No other information is sent to our web server and we are not able to deduct the "real" user name or any other information from the hash. This is also not our intention. We just want to ensure, that your installation complies with the number of user seats purchased.

A user seat can be freed after a period of thirty days as of the day of its activation. If you have any further questions regarding the Seat License activation mechanism, please feel free to contact support@realobjects.com
