4.7 Why does edit-on Pro ask for activation although I've already allocated my seat? Will another seat be activated?
When using an edit-on Pro Seat License, the activation for each user seat is required. Therefore, a hash of the user name (the one used as login for the operating system) is stored in RealObjects' license database, in order to verify whether a user already exists. If the user already exists no further seat will be allocated, see also support FAQ "4. Activation Mechanism (Seat License only!)" at: http://www.realobjects.com/Technical_FAQs.743.0.html. In addition, a file with the activation information (called activation key) is stored in the users home directory of the client machine in order to prevent the applet accessing the licensing service on our website each time it is loaded. So edit-on Pro will not require further internet connections when used on the SAME machine by the SAME user.
Now lets assume this user wants to use edit-on Pro on his notebook for instance, but using the same operating system login name. During the first start edit-on Pro will prompt an activation (an internet connection is required again), as there is no locally stored activation key available on the notebook. Only after this one-time prompt RealObjects' activation server will be contacted. The system recognize that the operating system login name was already activated, so NO further seat will be deducted. Now the activation key will be downloaded and stored locally on this new client machine, here the notebook. For all further starts of edit-on Pro using the same Windows login name no internet connection is required.
